Every year since 1987, the Loo of the Year Awards have celebrated the unsung heroes of public convenience: toilets! The awards recognise excellence in washroom facilities across the UK, encouraging top-notch cleanliness, accessibility and comfort. Inspectors make unannounced visits to thousands of loos – so no one knows when judgment day will come!
At the 2025 awards, the nation’s loos were judged across a range of quirky and serious categories, from “Baby Changing Facilities” to “Eco-Friendly Thrones”, all vying for the coveted Golden Loo Seat Trophy.
Golden Loo Seat Winner
The biggest accolade of all went to St David’s Dewi Sant in Cardiff, which took home the UK Loo of the Year Award Trophy – proving that Wales knows how to do more than just great rugby and castles!
The Quirkly Loo Award
One of the quirkiest highlights of this year’s awards goes to The Sherborne in Dorset, which scooped the coveted “Quirky Award” for its delightfully original washroom experience. This isn’t just any loo — it’s a thoughtfully designed space complete with bespoke wallpaper by Adam Ellis Studio and an atmosphere that makes visitors smile even before they leave. At the national ceremony on 14 January 2026, The Sherborne was also crowned England’s National Category Award winner for Quirky and achieved a Diamond grading, the highest honour reflecting pristine cleanliness and standout design. As the venue joyfully put it, this award “celebrates the care and creativity that runs through the whole building”, proving that even the loo can be a memorable part of a visit — and a source of pride for staff and visitors alike.
