Rivan Industries has opened its first UK manufacturing facility in London, creating a new base for systems designed to produce synthetic natural gas (SNG).
Production Base 1 covers 60,000 sq ft, including 25,000 sq ft of research and development space. Once fully operational, its semi-automated production line is expected to build up to 50 systems a year.
From solar power to grid-ready gas
Rivan’s modular 1MW systems use electricity from the company’s off-grid solar assets to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide. These are combined in a reactor to make SNG.
The hardware will be made and assembled in-house, covering metal fabrication, electronics and final assembly. The resulting gas is designed to meet grid specifications and can be injected into the UK gas network without infrastructure changes. The gas itself will be produced at deployment sites, not at the London factory.
Rivan has already deployed a 1MW system in Wiltshire and says it plans to recruit more than 100 people over the next 12 months. The company is also aiming to bring up to 1TWh of SNG online within three years.
Why it matters for Britain
The facility strengthens domestic manufacturing for an energy technology intended to reduce reliance on imported fossil gas. It also brings new engineering, research and manufacturing jobs to the UK, while supporting future SNG projects at sites around the country.
