Longbow electric sports cars set to bring 200 skilled jobs to Nuneaton

British car maker Longbow plans to begin building its hand-crafted electric sports cars at MIRA Tech Park, near Nuneaton, next year.

Production is expected to start with the limited-edition Speedster, followed shortly afterwards by the Roadster. The company says the project will create more than 200 skilled manufacturing jobs, with new opportunities for local suppliers as it grows.

A boost for the West Midlands car industry

Longbow is receiving £3m from the West Midlands Supplier Readiness and Transformation Fund, matched by the company. The four-year programme supports businesses moving into expanding electric vehicle supply chains.

The firm aims eventually to manufacture more than 10,000 cars a year, using predominantly UK-made parts. It has already established a research and development centre at MIRA and plans to open a training centre where workers can gain Institute of the Motor Industry-standard qualifications.

The investment forms part of plans to strengthen the region’s automotive sector, which includes around 1,000 companies and more than 46,000 people working in vehicle, component and electric vehicle technology manufacturing.

Why it matters for Britain

The project could add more than 200 skilled jobs around Nuneaton while giving local suppliers and trainees a route into electric vehicle manufacturing. It also keeps high-value car design and production rooted in the West Midlands, with the potential to support a wider UK supply chain.
