UK-Germany tech corridor targets AI, manufacturing and quantum growth

Britain and Germany have launched a new Industrial Tech Corridor to help technology companies work with major manufacturers and bring innovations such as artificial intelligence into industrial production.

The partnership is aimed at sectors including defence, aerospace, energy and advanced manufacturing. German companies Bosch, Siemens, Allianz and RWE are among those supporting it, while British firms will gain a route into partnerships, investment and customers in Germany.

Quantum research and new jobs

The governments are also creating a joint €20 million (£17 million) fund for quantum research, covering areas such as quantum computing, financial services and sensing. The UK contribution will come through Innovate UK.

Several companies have announced plans alongside the corridor. Munich-based robotics firm MicroAGI intends to expand in London, creating 180 jobs. UK-headquartered Quantexa plans a dedicated unit in Germany, while fusion company Proxima Fusion expects its workforce at Culham in Oxfordshire could quadruple by 2028.

The initiative is designed to move technologies from research into commercial use, connecting smaller scale-ups with established industrial groups. It builds on the wider Kensington Treaty framework for cooperation in technology, aerospace, defence and resilient supply chains.

Why it matters for Britain

The agreement gives British technology businesses more opportunities to work with German industry, while the quantum fund supports joint research. The announced expansion in London and Culham also points to additional skilled employment and investment in the UK.
