Doncaster pies set sail for an 8,000-mile trip to the Falklands

A family-run pie maker in Doncaster is sending a taste of South Yorkshire more than 8,000 miles across the Atlantic to the Falkland Islands.

Toppings Pies’ latest order is bound for Chandlery in Stanley. It is due to leave this week and will travel by sea for several weeks before reaching its destination.

A new market for a traditional range

The shipment includes items from Toppings Pies’ new pre-packed range of retail-ready pork pies and sausage rolls, designed for convenient sale in shops.

The order gives the Doncaster business a new customer thousands of miles from home. Toppings Pies has won more than 60 Great Taste Awards and has previously made pies for royalty.

Chandlery selected the company for its family history, traditional approach and award-winning products. The store is now preparing to put the South Yorkshire-made savouries on its shelves in Stanley.

Why it matters for Britain

The order gives a small British food business an overseas market while putting a regional product in front of customers in the Falkland Islands. It also shows how established local recipes can find new commercial opportunities beyond their home area.
