A 452-home council housing development has been completed in Greenwich, creating a new neighbourhood on a former brownfield site.
Kidbrooke Park Road includes one- to four-bedroom homes, a nursery, retail space, play areas and landscaped green areas. Of the 452 properties, 122 are net-zero, while a sustainable energy centre supplies heat and hot water across the development.
A wider council housebuilding programme
The scheme forms part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Greenwich Builds programme, which aims to deliver 1,750 new council homes across the borough. The development has been described by Durkan, which led the construction, as the UK’s largest new social housing project.
Construction also supported local projects through work with Greenwich Foodbank, HvH Arts and supply chain partners. Improvements included work at the Samuel Montagu Youth Centre.
The completed homes and wider facilities were marked at an event attended by tenants, councillors, MPs, the Greater London Authority, Durkan and other project partners.
Why it matters for Britain
The project adds 452 council homes in Greenwich, including 122 net-zero properties designed to reduce energy needs. It also brings community facilities, public space and a sustainable heat and hot-water system alongside new housing.
