Nearly 500 jobs lined up for Scotland’s next offshore wind project

Nearly 500 skilled offshore wind jobs are expected to be supported through a new agreement for SSE’s 1.4GW Berwick Bank B project.

Aberdeen-based Seaway7 has been appointed preferred supplier for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation work, subject to a final contract award. The agreement could support 465 UK roles, including 400 in Scotland.

Jobs across the supply chain

About 160 direct roles are expected to be based with Seaway7, while a further 105 indirect jobs could be created through the UK supply chain. Another 200 direct and indirect roles are anticipated through turbine foundation marshalling at a Scottish port, which is yet to be named.

The announcement takes the total number of jobs created or supported through SSE’s Berwick Bank B commitments to around 600 across the UK, including more than 500 in Scotland. These figures include previously announced jobs linked to a planned operations and maintenance base at Montrose Port.

Berwick Bank B is planned for the outer Firth of Forth, around 38 kilometres from the Scottish Borders coast. Seaway7 would design, supply and install around 90 turbine foundations and subsea inter-array cables.

SSE expects to make a final investment decision late next year. If approved, preparatory offshore construction could begin in 2028, with foundation and cable installation planned from 2029 to 2031.

Why it matters for Britain

The project is building demand for skilled workers and UK suppliers, particularly in Scotland’s offshore wind sector. It also supports the development of domestic expertise and infrastructure for future clean-energy projects.
