Renishaw has completed the first phase of a £70m expansion at its Miskin facility in South Wales, adding manufacturing space as demand grows for its precision engineering technologies.
The newly completed Hall 3 has taken the site’s usable floor area to 617,000 sq ft. A further building, Hall 4, will eventually bring the facility to 880,000 sq ft when fully operational.
A bigger base for high-tech production
Hall 3 is home to production of Renishaw’s metal additive manufacturing systems and AGILITY co-ordinate measuring machines, as well as a large automated storage and retrieval system.
The expansion will also help meet demand for position encoders, driven in part by the growing use of artificial intelligence, and for equipment used in semiconductor manufacturing.
The Miskin site now employs about 950 people, compared with around 25 when it opened in 2012. Renishaw says it has invested approximately £150m there so far, including new buildings, refurbishment and advanced equipment. The facility operates 134 CNC machines and produces roughly one million parts each month.
Both new halls have been designed to achieve Net Zero Carbon in Operation. The wider development includes an employee restaurant and fitness suite, landscaped areas and a 2km walking route.
Why it matters for Britain
The expansion strengthens a major advanced manufacturing site in Wales, supporting production for semiconductor, engineering and technology markets. It also builds on an operation that now provides around 950 jobs and includes further space for future growth.
