GE Aerospace is investing £57m in its aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facility beside Prestwick Airport, with around 150 new jobs expected over the next five years.
The company will put £30m into expanding and modernising the South Ayrshire site. A new 55,000 sq ft building is due to be completed by the start of 2028, helping increase capacity across GE Aerospace’s commercial maintenance network.
The project is being supported by £27m from the Ayrshire Growth Deal, while Scottish Enterprise has planned a further £6m investment. The UK Government has also invested £32m in the wider growth deal, aimed at supporting Prestwick Airport’s long-term future.
There is a skills element too. GE Aerospace is donating £75,000 to Ayrshire College for training equipment for about 150 students and apprentices, as well as a course preparing learners for careers across the aerospace industry.
Why it matters for Britain
The expansion should bring new engineering and maintenance roles to South Ayrshire while strengthening a specialist industrial site with links to GE Aerospace’s wider commercial network. Investment in local training could also help more people build careers in aerospace and advanced manufacturing.
