Plans for the next stage of Kingston’s Cambridge Road Estate regeneration have been approved, clearing the way for 383 more homes in one of London’s biggest estate renewal projects.
Phase Two will include 94 council-rent homes, more than 700 cycle spaces and around 120 parking spaces. The plans also provide about 100 new trees and over 2,000 square metres of dedicated play space.
A wider transformation under way
The wider programme, being delivered by Kingston Council and Vistry, is set to create 2,170 homes in total, alongside new community facilities, greener areas and improved public spaces.
Work has already moved beyond the planning stage. Phase One has delivered 250 homes, while another 202 homes and a new community centre are currently under construction.
Designed by architects BPTW, the regeneration is intended to create a mixed-tenure neighbourhood, with new homes and upgraded facilities for existing and future residents.
Why it matters for Britain
The project will add council-rent housing in Kingston while improving play areas, public space, cycling provision and community facilities. It also shows how estate renewal can combine new homes with investment in the everyday infrastructure residents use.
