GE Aerospace is to invest £30m in expanding and modernising its facility at Prestwick, creating around 150 jobs over the next five years.
The project will add a 55,000 sq ft building to improve the site’s layout, logistics and operational flow. It will increase capacity for the company’s commercial engine maintenance, repair and overhaul network, with full operations targeted for the first quarter of 2028.
Investment in jobs and skills
The expansion forms part of a planned £57m package, bringing together GE Aerospace’s investment with support from the Ayrshire Growth Deal and a planned contribution from Scottish Enterprise.
GE Aerospace will also donate £75,000 to Ayrshire College. The funding will provide training equipment for students and apprentices, and support a course aimed at preparing people for careers across the aerospace industry. Around 150 apprentices and full-time students are expected to benefit.
The investment is intended to strengthen Prestwick’s role in the UK aerospace sector while supporting advanced manufacturing, engineering and the wider Scottish aerospace supply chain.
Why it matters for Britain
The project brings new skilled employment to Ayrshire and adds capacity to an important UK engineering operation. Support for local aerospace training should also help more students and apprentices gain the practical skills needed by the sector.
