Lisburn engineering firm plans 100 jobs in £20m expansion

A Lisburn engineering firm is set to create 100 jobs through a £20m investment, giving a boost to Northern Ireland’s manufacturing sector.

Camlin makes equipment used to monitor electricity grids, including predictive technology that helps manage the growing complexity created by renewable energy. The investment is the first stage of a planned expansion following the company’s takeover by Siemens Energy earlier this year.

Building up Northern Ireland’s energy expertise

Camlin chief executive Peter Cunningham said the expansion reflected confidence in Northern Ireland, its workforce and its technology. He also said he wanted to build the business to a scale comparable with Craigavon-based pharmaceutical firm Almac.

The company reported a pre-tax profit of £8.4m on turnover of £88m in 2024. Its growth comes as demand increases for equipment supporting electricity networks and the wider clean energy transition.

The jobs announcement was welcomed by Martin McCluskey, a junior minister at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. It also comes during a strong period for Northern Ireland manufacturing: official figures showed output up 9% year on year in the second quarter, reaching a 10-year high.

Why it matters for Britain

The expansion will bring 100 skilled roles to Lisburn and add investment to the UK’s energy technology supply chain. Camlin’s grid-monitoring products could also support the practical challenge of integrating more renewable power into electricity networks.
